Acting Up (MAU) will present their 7th annual Reclaim Mother’s Day Events and Parade. MAU’s Mother’s Day events are inspired by the life, words and actions of Julia Ward Howe. After the Civil War, Julia called for a day when mothers would unite across boundaries – of nationality, race, religion or political affiliation – to protect our global family. This year, MAU will present an entire week of engaging and inspiring events that are free and open to the public. These events, beginning on May 3rd, include a Stilt Walking Workshop, Presentation of (M)other – an intimate, funny and provocative theatrical performance about moving from concern to action - and Girlcotts celebrating local business that offer fair trade, organic and locally made gifts. For more information on these and other events, visit www.bouldermau.blogspot.com
These events will culminate in the Parade taking place on Mother’s Day, May 11. The festivities begin outside the Boulder Public Library at 9th and Canyon. At 11:30am, mothers and others will be able to decorate strollers, wagons and tricycles with supplies provided by MAU. The parade will begin at the library at 1:00 PM, led by the Raging Grannies, and will end on the Pearl Street Mall. At the Mall, participants will be invited to take part in kid-friendly activities, explore action tables, eat cake and be entertained by music provided by Ancestral Voices and Danae Shanti. This can’t-miss event promises to build on its strong foundation of local families and visionaries and outshine Reclaiming Mother’s Day Parades of years past. Sponsors of the event include: 8 Days a Week, A Place to B Studios, Ancestral Voices, Diana Caile @ Homestead Real Estate, LLC, The Eye Care Center of Northern Colorado, Momentum, The Painted Poppy, Play Grounds Café, Rebecca’s Herbal Apothecary, Sweet Leaf Teas, Whole Foods and Wolf & Lyon Architects. Some of the local organizations that will be tabling include: Boulder Friends of UNICEF, Friendship Bridge, Global Education Fund, Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center, Run for Congo Women and New Era Colorado who will be registering voters.
