Mother Leadership at the State Capitol

Mentoring Program to Advocate for Children

The Purpose: To begin a children’s movement in the Colorado State Legislature.

The Plan: An opportunity for mothers to experience the legislative process from the inside. The mentoring program includes three to four visits to the state capitol. Participants will witness firsthand how a bill becomes a law (or not) including: meeting with the legislative sponsor, observing public testimony, and counting the final votes on the floor.

The Program: Participants will learn our government system, find ways to best apply ones time and talent, and promote positive outcomes for the children and families of Colorado. Each representative is offered minimum legislative support staff. Highly paid lobbyists and term limits make leaders susceptible to big money interests. As citizens, our voices are needed more now than perhaps ever before. The program lasts no more than three days and multiple schedules are available. The mentoring process can be completed in less than ten hours. Please join the Mother Leadership Mentoring program to impact public policy and represent the needs of our children in the Colorado legislature.

The People: Sponsored by Mothers Acting Up, facilitated by Angela Engel, author and children’s advocate. Contact Joellen Raderstorf, joellen@mothersactingup.org

It’s been 88 years since the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution granted women the right to vote. It’s time for a “decided circle of women” to come together again for a new movement. If we, as mothers, will not speak up for our children, who will? Please join Mother’s Acting Up as we embark on a new adventure in creating the Children’s Movement at the Colorado State Capitol.
