So far, the District has not lived up to the language of the bond. Our group, Greening Boulder's Schools, has formed in response to concerns that an opportunity to green the schools may be passing us by . Our goals are to 1) pressure BVSD to make energy efficiency, renewables and green energy a priority and a policy directive 2) connect all the schools in BVSD receving bond money in a larger conversation about greening and 3) push BVSD to consider some creative financing mechanisms to make greening a reality (there are numerous options out there and we dont feel that the district has been aggressive about pursuing them).
So far, we have representatives from Manhattan Middle School, Foothill Elementary, Aurora 7, Crestview Elementary, Casey Middle School, Lafayette Elementary and Fairview High. We are hoping to get representatives from the following remaining schools which are in phase 1 of Bond construction. It is preferable that the rep. be on the DAT (design advisory team) but not essential. Reps. time commitment may be fairly limited.
Summit Middle School
Boulder High
Broomfield High
Community Montessori
Louisville Middle
Monarch High School
Nederland High School
Columbine Elementary
Finally if you want to be part of this dialogue about greening the schools, we have set up a google group to manage all the emails and information. Here is the link to sign up for the Google Group called "Greening Boulder's Schools":http://groups.google.com/group/bvsd-greening
Note that you can choose to receive emails or not. The web-based method lets you go to the group and interact when you want, rather than getting emails.
Thank you for caring about our schools and our children,
Bay Roberts
