Welcome!

I am so happy to welcome you all to the Boulder area Mothers Acting Up blog!

Please join me in blogging about what's going on with the local MAU community, the local and widespread political realm, the world, the environment or just what's on your mind (pertaining to MAU, of course).

A couple of weeks ago I ventured out to a meeting of the local (and founding) meeting of Mothers Acting Up. What a great group of women! There mission is to unite mothers in taking spirited action to prioritize children with a focus on shifting resources to provide health & education, caring for the environment and exposing the true cost of war. When nearly every-other child lives in poverty, it's time to mobilize the mamas! (Mothers, defined: mothers and others, on stilts or off, who excercise protective care over someone smaller.) Some of the guidelines of the group follow the United Nation's eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 – which form a blueprint agreed to by all the world’s countries and all the world’s leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world’s poorest. You can find more information here: http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals/index.html My biggest, personal mission (as you who know me can probably guess) is the environment. However, I must say that where I've been noncommital in the past, on issues of world poverty, the global economy, gender equality in other parts of the world, etc., I am becoming more aware through my interactions with this group. I love that MAU exists so that I can stand up and be counted; but also research and work to inspire others in the realm of environmental protection! I - along with my tiny activists - am having a lot of fun and doing something meaningful, too! The images here are from our Stand Up Against Poverty ralley on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder last week. If you're interested, check out MAU's website and join - or form - a group in your area!

In spirited partnership,
